Damsons!

This looks like an exceptional year for damsons!  Of all crops they are the most unpredictable and it is great to have such a good crop this year.

If you are a damson fan this is the year to fill your freezer, make jam, damson gin etc.

They are available to pick your own or ready picked and we are open daily except Monday.

Tue-Sat 9-5
Sun       10-5

Last admission to the fields is 4pm

Our polytunnel  strawberries are ready again and there are plenty to pick today!

Don't delay.  On past form they are likely to be picked out again by  Sunday.

We still have plenty of plums.  Victoria, Jubilee and Reeves are all ready and damsons have just started.

Please note that our Autumn opening hours now apply and we are closed on Mondays.

Farmers' Quz: The Answers

The Farm and Forage night was very well received, especially the rabbit stew!  We hope to see you at the Harvest Supper on Saturday 19 September when you can enjoy a 3 course harvest feast.  See the menu on the website.

Meanwhile, the farmers' quiz was a challenge to most of you.  The questions were all old farming sayings with a degree of truth.  Certainly they are often trotted out in this farming family!

1  As the day lengthens, the cold strengthens.  (Designed to depress you in January!)

2  Red sky at night shepherds delight. (Usually holds true for a dry night at least)

3  Rain before 7 fine by 11 (Not infallible but true more often than not)

4  March dust is worth a guinea an ounce. ( A dry March is invaluable to get the spring sowings done in time before the April showers).

We hope you are now able to astound your friends by wisely dropping out some of the above at appropriate occasions.
